new MFF bio

Boston-based rock quartet, MY FAKE FUNERAL is the brainchild of prolific singer/songwriter, Ann Driscoll. The 22-year old Ohio native, who has delighted and challenged fans and critics alike since her teens with music released under her own name, recruited Justin Hancock (guitar) Dabbo Caucci (bass) and Bruno Esrubilsky (drums) for a new project- MY FAKE FUNERAL in 2010.

Influenced by The Beatles and Harry Nilsson as well as recent icons, The Strokes and St. Vincent, MY FAKE FUNERAL fuses the past and the present into songs described as “dark and edgy content juxtaposed with super-catchy melodies and highly singable choruses” (Berkleegroove.com). Between drummer Esrubilsky’s technical mastery and Brian Viglione-esque showmanship (often standing while playing) and Caucci’s punk-Jamerson bass lines, the rhythm section lays tight, danceable rock grooves below Driscoll’s forceful alto and Driscoll/Hancock’s guitars, which are alternately jagged and jangly.

MY FAKE FUNERAL’s combination of expert songwriting, on-stage charisma, and tight musicianship has impressed industry insiders. With the support of Heavy Rotation Records, the band made their SXSW debut this past March, where their high-energy showcases earned them a spot on the Austin City Limits Festival in October.

MY FAKE FUNERAL marks a bold new step for Driscoll, whose early solo recordings– Young Tracks LP and “Trophy Fuck” single– are available on iTunes. As a teenager, Driscoll was lauded by Citybeat for her “blunt, catchy (but not predictable) Pop, with…a writing style that is obviously informed by prime influences like The Beatles and Nirvana.” As the front-woman of all-female side-project Mrs Danvers, Driscoll has received unanimous praise and notice from the Boston music/arts blogosphere.

MY FAKE FUNERAL is an embodiment of the many facets of Driscoll’s artistic personality- as well as an explosive, energetic live band. As ginger and thoughtful in their musical choices and songwriting as they are uninhibited in their live performance, MY FAKE FUNERAL is a band to watch in 2010.
